Public engagement
and STEM

Following their initial training, all IBioIC CTP students are required to undertake at least two days of STEM activities per year. STEM engagement to date has included presenting at science fairs, participating in the Leaders in Science programme and mentoring first year university students through the Scottish Mobility Foundation scheme.

“It was really quite a special experience for me teaching the students various aspects of science, coaching them through the development of a workshop, and watching them run the workshop in the schools – it’s how I imagine a proud parent feels! For my development it also helped me to focus my thoughts to better explain scientific processes to those not in the field – something I often struggle with.”
